Yayasan Pengembangan Masyarakat Flores (YPMF)

Flores Community Development Foundation (FCDF)

To create a world where the poorest families can reach their full potential in a society that upholds human rights and humanitarian values.

1. Work together with local communities to develop strategies to increase the possibilities for income generation, so they can fulfil their basic needs and obtain a higher standard of living.

2. Increase the capacity of local institutions to work together with local communities to promote prosperity and self-reliance.

3. Promote human rights awareness, including children's rights, and gender equality at the grass-roots level.

YPMF derives its focus directly from community need and demand. Needs are high throughout Flores, which is among the poorest and most marginalized areas in Indonesia in terms of health, education, employment, and information opportunities. We work with small groups (kelompoks) at the village level to promote integrated development. Programs are undertaken in the areas of health, education, agriculture, income generation, social communication and human rights advocacy, in consultation with group members. YPMF staff use their local knowledge, together with specialist expertise in the areas of economics, law, animal husbandry, agriculture, tourism, education and culture, to provide appropriate assistance in accordance with the needs of the community.

How we work:

Our methodologies are based in a commitment to participatory and self-help approaches to community development. Throughout the project cycle we work in a collaborative way with kelompoks to identify priorities, make agreements for implementing projects, and assessing and monitoring outcomes and lessons for future work. Our agreement-making and negotiation processes are drawn from kula-babong, a local consensual model. The same methodology and philosophy is used by the YPMF team for internal management.

YPMF is supported by NTA and Char Main Foundation
