Burung Indonesia

BirdLife Indonesia Association is a national membership-based conservation organization working on bird conservation efforts, research and information management, networking, communication and advocacy, as well as membership development. Its main business is to provide opportunities and provide services for the public to participate in efforts to conserve birds and their habitats in Indonesia and to develop independent organizations that create opportunities for the development of local leadership and direction, as well as developing a national constituency.

Vision and mission:

Burung Indonesia's mission is to be the guardian of Indonesia's wild birds and their habitats, and to work with people for sustainable development. Its organizational objectives are to promote the conservation of sites, species and habitats by working with non-government organizations, local communities, government institutions and the broader public to:

  • Provide support for improved planning and management of important sites, species, and habitats
  • Develop capacity for improved management of sites, species, and habitats
  • Introduce and advocate new ideas for integrating biodiversity conservation into planning and policy, for example through collaborative management and sustainable use of natural resources
  • Provide information on biodiversity and protected areas to planners, policy-makers, and other interest groups
  • Stimulate greater public interest in birds and biodiversity conservation

 Location Mbeliling

In Flores, Burung Indonesia's Mbeliling Programme is currently focused on a project working towards the Sustainable and Integrated Management of Mbeliling Forest. We do this through working with and building the conservation and sustainable livelihood capacity of Conservation Development Group (CDGs) members in 27 villages surrounding the forest area. We provide training and run activities in conservation and livelihood development areas, as well as working closely with interested parties and government to develop a strategic management approach for the sustainable management of the Mbeliling Landscape. The development objective of our current project is that: Participatory forest management improves sustainable livelihoods in communities around Mbeliling. This objective is supported by three goals of Empowerment, Poverty Reduction and Conservation

Burung Indonesia's Mbeliling Programme on Flores is funded by DANIDA, the Danish Government Development Assistance Agency and is supported by Dansk Ornitologisk Forening (DOF), the Danish BirdLife Partner
