World Wildlife Fund

WWF is involved in the following projects:

SOLOR-ALOR, East Nusa Tenggara

WWF-Indonesia, worked in three districts of Alor Solor with 23 village, continue to improve sustainable support with the aim of diminishing the threat and that Alor-Solor will continue its conservation programs, as followings: KKLD formation in Lembata and East Flores, build and maintain the commitment of local governments in the formation of KKLD at those two districts in the way of program and budget sharing. Conduct further surveys on coral reef ecology, fish, mangroves, and seagrass, and divide zoning team for Alor district which have been formed by SK Regent, where the process of preparation of zoning area is still in process.

WWF-Indonesia capture fisheries program

WWF-Indonesia Capture Fisheries program have set up a line of program aiming to achieve

sustainable fisheries, which include:

• Introduction and promotion of the Tuna fisheries Ecosystem Based Management (Tuna

fishery-EBM) by 2012

• Composing Better practices of Tuna and Reef Food Fish (RFF) fisheries for fishing and

handling which will also be able to drive the creation of fair business within its business

chain of custody by 2013,

• Widening campaign on seafood guideline to consumers (e.g. individual, restaurants, hotels,

major retailers) in 5 big cities by 2009.

Seafood Savers

WWF-Indonesia redirected its strategy from confronting bad practices groups to acknowledging good ones through establishment of a corporate group named Seafood Savers. Fishermen and producers conducting good fishing practices needs a group that will coordinate and upscale the level of efforts to sustainability which they have been making themselves individually. More than anything, these companies deserves an appreciation. Existence of such group will be able to give them publications and exposures as a form of reward to what they have done and achieved.
