BBC 'Blue Planet - Deep Trouble' team explain the environmental dangers facing the world's shallow waters. With high demands for rare species of fish, coral reefs are in danger of being fished out and deserted. Brilliant natural world video.

Former Indonesian Environment Minister Sonny Keraf talks about what make the two biggest islands in the Indonesian archipelago - Kalimantan and West Papua - so special and worth saving. Mr. Keraf, a politician for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), also talks about Freeport and the destructive palm plantation trend these days. Mr. Keraf was invited to speak by the Papua-Kalimantan Justice and Peace Forum in Jakarta. video

Cultural heritage

The people of the Tana 'Ai region of Flores, Indonesia live in seven ceremonial domains, of which Wai Brama is the largest and the oldest. The people of Wai Brama are shifting cultivators, hunters and gatherers who, unlike their neighbors, have maintained their traditional ceremonial and social system. video

Scientists have found more evidence that the Indonesian "Hobbit" skeletons belong to a new species of human - and not modern pygmies. The one metre (3ft) tall, 30kg (65lbs) humans roamed the Indonesian island of Flores, perhaps up to 8,000 years ago.
Since the discovery, researchers have argued vehemently as to the identity of these diminutive people. Two papers in the journal Nature now support the idea they were an entirely new species of human. The team, which discovered the tiny remains in Liang Bua cave on Flores, contends that the population belongs to the species Homo floresiensis -separate from our own grouping Homo sapiens.

This video focuses on Cecilia Sii, a skillful weaver woman on the Indonesian island of Flores and her daughter, Grasiana Wani, who has followed into the weaving tradition of her family.                               The narration describes the role of the artist in creating the textiles, introduces the main steps in textile production, and depicts Cecilia Sii telling her story about becoming a weaver and learning different patterns. video
