Waste Management

Waste Management

Lack of waste management infrastructure on Flores is a challenge and one of the most urgent issues to be addressed.

Since 2012 we have facilitated conferences and working group meetings to raise awareness about pollution and the need for waste management infrastructure development

Our actions

  • In 2013 we developed teacher training to increase waste literacy in schools. We supported establishment of school collection points for recyclables and collaborate with the Indonesian Plastics Recycling Association to increase recycling rates;  video

  • Starting from 2019 we work in Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park to support implementation of waste segregation at household level under the umbrella of Indonesian Waste Platform;
  • We promote reduction of single-use plastics, reuse and alternative delivery models, development of Circular Economy, collection and recycling of materials;
  • We raise awareness about the impact of open burning of plastic.
